My figure paintings are created from life. The immediacy of the model, the urgency of time, and the transience of the pose inspire me to approach the work loosely, with fortitude, not fussiness. I try to forget what I know and explore new gestures & new methods of mark-making as I go. I find the more I ignore anatomy drawing, the more the piece becomes a figure painting.
